Taddiport Quay

OS ref 488 188
This was the site of the Rolle Canal Company Offices. There were loading and discharging facilities with warehouses, covered sheds and considerable space for storage especially of coal. An island was built in the canal for secure coal storage. Lime kilns were sited here also.
Covered sheds were required for the storage of cargoes travelling outward, these predominantly being oak bark for the tanning trade and ball clay from the pits at Peters Marland. Large rough-cut baulks of timber were also floated down the canal from here.
The local traders, fearful of their own business, insisted on a limited range of goods being allowed to be traded by the canal company.
An original warehouse still exists here although now a private residence.
